Take A Trip To Ogle At The QE2 While In Dubai

In June, reports of Istithma purchasing the Queen Elizabeth 2 for a cool £50 million surfaced and led to a wild bout of national pride that is still being resounded all over Dubai. The hullaballoo over this purchase is understandable and if you are in Dubai, you could rent cars in Dubai to understand this attraction better.

The QE2 is a very well known liner and possibly one of the most famous ships of all time. Diplomats, wealthy executives, musicians and a host of dignitaries and celebrities have treaded down its planks throughout its 39-year-old history.

Currently, plans are on to convert the luxury cruise liner to a seven-star hotel, after it docks at its new home- the Palm Jumeirah. The refurbishment planned for this marvel of old-world shipping liners is rumored to amount to almost double the cost paid to secure the ship.

While critics think that Dubai will, in characteristic flamboyance, replace the age-old patina with its gilt-edged renovation efforts, the developers behind the project say otherwise. Nakheel assures, “The soul of any ocean liner is the people and the experiences they have on board. We wanted to recreate those experiences and provide an educational and cultural experience in the whole precinct.”

Regardless of the financial situation plaguing the markets, the developers are set on seeing the project through. Who knows, the Queen Elizabeth 2 really might be the fantastic tourist destination Emiratis hope to feel proud of.

Check it out for yourself. Rent cars in Dubai for a viewing of the ship at the Dubai Dry Docks, where it is being worked on.
